Large vacant stand for sale: louriesfontein in northen cape LARGE VACANT STAND FOR SALE: LOERIESFONTEIN Loeriesfontein was established in 1894 by Frederick Turner, originally from Norwich in England; he founded the general store in order to provide supplies to the local farming community. This store is still a thriving business and is known as Turner and Haupt Spar. The owner is Frederick Turner’s grandson. The origin of the town name of Loeriesfontein is uncertain, but it is believed to be named after the Knysna Loerie, or a travelling salesman by the name of Lurie another option given is derived from the Afrikaans word “loer” which means “to peep”. This stand is situated in the small town of Loeriesfontein in a huge natural basin, surrounded by mountains, where the Hantam region, Bushmanland and Namqualand, meet. Loeriesfontein is only 433 kilometres away from Cape Town, while you can visit Vredendal, which is a distance of 144 kilometres. Loeriesfontein is also known for its incredible displays of wild flowers during the flower season, with a variety of four thousand species. It is known as well for the most remarkable collection of windmills or Wind pumps. The “steel flowers” of Loeriesfontein can be viewed at the Windmill Museum, which was founded by the late Dr Watson, now cared for by the Fred Turner Museum, found in an old school building. This museum has more than one thousand items; focusing on the culture and way of life of the pioneering farmers, on exhibit. Loeriesfontein is also home to one of the largest Quiver Tree Forests in the world also known as Aloes – they can grow up to four meters.
