This interesting LIFE STYLE farm of 81 ha is situated in the Southern Cape in the Herbertsdale area, some 40 Km from Mossel Bay, and directly across from the famous Gondwana Private Game Reserve. It is about 14 km from the Herbertsdale tarred road, on a dust road.
This is possibly the right spot for someone who:
• would love living out in the bundu, in a peaceful and quite place
• who would love to further develop the farm and undertake self-sustaining farming/living and
• even, if he so desires, run a bit of a tourism accommodation business (see comment in the last paragraph).
For many years this farm - situated on a beautiful rolling landscape with the far away Outeniqua mountain rage as backdrop - had not been developed at all. The current owner, running it as a Life Style farm, has done much in terms of developing and improving the farm by:
• restoring the fences,
• creating two-spoor farm tracks roads making the farm far more accessible, and
• clearing fire breaks next to most of the fences.
• ploughing certain areas to promote the growing of feeding grass/plants for the cattle.
• building a nice new store, and
• the kraal has been cleverly redesigned so that practically one person can ‘work’ the cattle or load them on a truck.
Currently the owner of this farm is keeping about 25 cattle and its capacity for keeping more is possible to an extent, depending on how the farm will be further develop.
The farm is split into 4 main camps and there are 4 ground dams with much water. Many tanks have been added to the store in order to harvest rain water. Three spots have been identified as suitable for drilling for water, and one of them is expected to be quite strong. (Reports are available to back this up.)
Apart from farming with cattle and/or sheep and adding a vegetable patch with some fruit trees, there is also the possibility of adding a main house as well as a number of clamping units (glamorous camping). According to the owner the municipality has indicated that this will be allowed, but currently we are waiting for a formal acknowledgment.
