BOESMANLAND FARM FOR SALE – KENHARDT / BRANDVLEI, NORTHERN CAPE
4,447.1255 ha | 9 Camps | 4 Equipped Boreholes | Grazing Capacity: 1 LSU per 39 ha
Natural Grazing, Reliable Water Infrastructure and Established Farming Facilities
Located between Kenhardt and Brandvlei in the heart of Boesmanland, this extensive livestock farm offers an opportunity to acquire a property with established infrastructure and natural grazing suited to extensive sheep farming.
The farm covers 4,447.1255 hectares of Bushmanland Basin Shrubland, with an average annual rainfall of approximately 100–200 mm. The indicated grazing capacity is 1 LSU per 39 hectares. Having remained largely ungrazed for the past two years, the veld is currently reported to be in very good condition following the recent introduction of a few cattle into one camp. The natural vegetation includes an abundance of indigenous Ganna, traditionally valued in the region for its association with the distinctive flavour of locally produced lamb and mutton.
Water and Livestock Infrastructure
Water is a key feature of this property. The farm is subdivided into nine manageable camps, supported by four equipped boreholes: two windmills and two solar-powered pumps. Five reservoirs provide water storage and distribution throughout the camps.
The landscape is more varied than the predominantly flat terrain often associated with Boesmanland, with several dry riverbeds that accommodate three earthen dams and one larger dam. These dams collect and store rainwater during the rainy season, providing additional water-storage capacity.
The property also offers four sheep-handling facilities (krale), three loading facilities and stock-proof fencing in decent condition. Some Prosopis trees occur along the dry riverbeds and may require ongoing management.
Farmhouse and Outbuildings
The farmstead includes a three-bedroom farmhouse with an outside room, storage room, washroom and separate dining room. The kitchen features a built-in AGA stove in very good condition, complemented by a separate dining and sitting area. The house has one bathroom, cement floors and was recently painted externally. Although generally in good condition, there is currently no electricity supply.
Additional improvements include a shed with an attached storage room and two workers' houses requiring attention. A water tank and flushing toilet are installed, but the pipeline from the pump to the house requires repair, and a gas water heater still needs to be installed.
Access and Investment Potential
The farm is surrounded by neighbouring farms, offering a relatively private farming environment. Access to the R27 is provided by a registered servitude road that has recently been graded.
The property is currently leased and is being sold as a rental business. The lease may be cancelled after transfer, subject to its terms. No livestock is included in the sale.
The seller is VAT-registered, and the transaction is intended to qualify as a zero-rated going concern, subject to the applicable VAT requirements being met.
An Opportunity for the Serious Livestock Farmer
